A desk calendar stands up on its own stiff card base, so it can sit beside a keyboard or on a counter. It comes in A5, DL or a 148mm square. A wall calendar hangs on a hook from a notch in its coil and has more sizes: A5, A4, A3, a 210mm square for square photos and a tall, slim one-third A3 for a narrow wall. Wall calendars can be portrait or landscape, but they're always bound along the top.
Both are bound with a silver wire coil and have either 13 pages printed on one side or 7 printed on both. Thirteen gives you a cover and a page for each month, and you can print on the back of the last page too, a good spot for your contact details. The 250gsm paper is card-like, while 150gsm and 170gsm are lighter. Silk shows photos off well, while uncoated is better for writing appointments in.
A drilled hole calendar is made more like a booklet: stapled through the fold, with a drilled hole for hanging it on a nail or hook. It's A4 or A5 and always 28 pages including the cover, all printed both sides. Inside pages are 120gsm uncoated or 150gsm silk, and the cover can match them or step up to 250gsm silk with a matt or gloss laminate to protect it.
Whichever you choose, leave space where the calendar is held. Keep dates clear of the top edge on coil-bound calendars, and keep anything important away from the hole on a drilled one.
Planners put the whole year on one sheet, on 150gsm or 170gsm silk printed on one side only, with the 170gsm a little sturdier. A wall planner is a large A1 or A2 sheet for an office, school or workshop wall, and you can order just one. A folded wall planner folds down to A4 or A5, so it fits in an envelope or a welcome pack and opens out on the wall later.
Before you send a planner file, check every date against a real calendar, including the day each month starts and any bank holidays you've marked.
